Free Naloxone Training

Greene County Public Health is offering two free opportunities for community members to learn how to use naloxone, a medication that can quickly reverse an opioid overdose.

The training sessions are being held in recognition of Overdose Awareness Day and are open to everyone. No medical background is needed, and registration for the sessions is not necessary. The training itself takes only about 10 minutes and gives participants the knowledge and confidence to step in and help save a life.

Training dates and locations:

  • Monday, August 24, from 4–6 p.m.
    Fairborn Community Library
    1 E. Main St., Fairborn
  • Wednesday, August 26, from 4–6 p.m.
    Xenia YMCA
    336 Progress Drive, Xenia

Each person who completes the training will receive a free first aid kit and a free naloxone kit to take home (while supplies last).

"Learning how to use naloxone is a simple way to be ready when someone needs help," said Erin Gebhardt, Health Educator for Harm Reduction at Greene County Public Health. "You do not need to be a medical professional. With just 10 minutes of training, you can gain the knowledge and confidence to make a difference."

Participants are encouraged to boost their first aid kit with naloxone. Naloxone is safe to give when an opioid overdose is suspected and can help restore breathing. "Reducing the stigma around naloxone is an important part of preventing overdose deaths," said Gebhardt. "Naloxone is a life-saving tool, just like a first aid kit or an AED. Having it available does not encourage drug use. It simply means we are

prepared to help someone in an emergency. By making naloxone easy to access and teaching people how to use it, we can help save lives and show compassion for those who may be struggling."

If you cannot attend one of the training events, you can still get free naloxone delivered directly to your home by visiting this website: https://bit.ly/3f2yjlJ or scanning the available QR code.
