Free testing and treatment are available to anyone who needs them!
Greene County Public Health’s SafeTrade Harm Reduction program is teaming up with the Hep C Cure Squad from Central Outreach Wellness Center to offer an important health service in Fairborn.
What is Hepatitis C?
Hepatitis C (Hep C) is a disease that affects the liver. It is caused by a virus that spreads when blood from an infected person gets into someone else’s body. You can get Hep C from sharing needles, straws for drugs, personal items like toothbrushes or razors, through sex, or from getting tattoos with unclean tools. People born between 1946 and 1964, Vietnam veterans, and anyone who had surgery or a blood transfusion before 1992 are at higher risk.

If Hep C isn’t treated, it can cause serious problems like liver cancer or scarring of the liver (cirrhosis) and can lead to death. Many people don’t feel sick until the disease is very advanced. There is no vaccine for Hep C, so the best way to prevent it is to avoid risky behaviors.
The CDC recommends that everyone in the U.S. get tested at least once in their life, and more often if they are at higher risk. The free test takes only 10 minutes, and treatment usually takes 8–12 weeks.
