Greene County Public Health will hold a Cribs for Kids Pack-N-Play Giveaway and Car Seat Giveaway/Inspection Event on Tuesday, March 24, from 1:00–3:00 p.m. at 360 Wilson Drive, Xenia.
The event will help families keep babies and young children safe. Families can get Infant Survival Kits that include a Pack-N-Play (cribette), fitted sheet, sleep sack, and safe sleep information.
To get a free Pack-N-Play, families must live in Greene County and either be at least 32 weeks pregnant or have a baby under one year old. No sign-up is needed—walk-ins are welcome while supplies last.
The event also includes a Car Seat Giveaway and Safety Check behind the Greene County Public Health building under the carport. This is part of the Ohio Buckles Buckeyes program, which helps families get car seats and booster seats and shows how to use them safely.
Certified safety technicians will:
• Check car seats to make sure they are installed correctly
• Teach parents and caregivers how to use the seats safely
• Give new car seats or booster seats when available
• Teach parents and caregivers how to use the seats safely
• Give new car seats or booster seats when available
Car seats can protect children from serious injury or death in a car crash.
The event will also teach families about safe sleep for babies. Even though infant deaths have dropped since the “Back to Sleep” campaign started in 1994, unsafe sleep is still the leading cause of death for babies after the first month. Three babies die each week in Ohio because of unsafe sleep. Babies are safest when they sleep Alone, on their Back, in an empty Crib (ABCs of Safe Sleep).
Families are encouraged to watch these safe sleep videos on the public health website at www.greenecophoh.gov/announcements before coming:
• Infant Safe Sleep
• Cribs for Kids Cribette Instructions
• Pediatrician loses baby to SIDS
• Why babies should sleep on their back
