US Measles Cases Continue to Grow

CDC has confirmed 1,618 cases this year, with 22 more cases reported this week. This marks the highest number of cases in the U.S. since 1992. The South Carolina Department of Public Health has confirmed four additional measles cases in Spartanburg County, raising the state’s total number this year to 23. Measles rates remain high in Utah and Arizona. Of the 1,618 cases nationwide, 87% are part of 43 outbreaks of three or more related cases. Twelve percent of cases have required hospitalization, including 95 children under the age of five years old. Three people have died. Of cases in the U.S., 92% involve unvaccinated people or those with unknown vaccination status.
